February 12-16, 2014

This past week Bridgton Academy Basketball played three games. The first game was Wednesday night at Lee Academy, and the Wolverines came out playing great defense and offense. Rayon Miller (Brampton, ON) gave the Wolverines thirty-three points and Zach Lydon (Elizaville, NY) with twenty. The game was back and forth, but it all came down to the final seconds when Lydon mad a big free-throw to give BA the win 75-74. The second game was on Saturday against Northfield-Mt. Hermon. Although BA started the game slow and was down eight nothing to start the game, the Wolverines would not give up, and found themselves down only six points at the half. Unfortunately, Northfield came out on fire the second half to put BA away with a final score of 78-53. The third game of the week was on Sunday against Putnam Science School. The Wolverines gave everything they had, but it was just not enough to match the talented Putnam team and ended up losing 85-53. BA has their last home game this year on Wednesday against Brewster Academy at 6:00 P.M. Thank you for all the support of our basketball team this year.

February 6-9, 2014

This past week Bridgton Academy Basketball played three games in four days. The first game was Thursday night at New Hampton School, and the Wolverines came out playing great defense and moving the ball well on offense. Unfortunately, the Wolverines would end up coming short against NHS 73-56. The second game was on Saturday against Jean De Brebeuf, a school from Montreal, Canada. It was a great game with two evenly matched teams. The back and forth contest saw both teams trading baskets, ultimately coming down to the wire that ended in a 68-64 loss for BA. Tanner Hyland (South Portland, ME) led the team in scoring with 23 points and 5 assists. Luckily enough for BA, they had a game the next day against a very good Marianapolis School. The Wolverines came out ready to battle, giving it everything they had for forty minutes. BA hit their first four three-pointers to start the game and was playing great team basketball on both ends of the floor. BA would ultimately come out ahead 74-63 and end their losing streak.

Coaches vs. Cancer Winter Classis

This weekend the BA Wolverine basketball team hosted the fourth annual Coaches Vs. Cancer Winter Classic at Bridgton Academy's Memorial Gymnasium. Notre Dame Prep, NAPS (Naval Academy Prep) and St. Thomas More rounded out the tournament lineup, which kicked off with St. Thomas More dispatching Notre Dame Prep. Bridgton Academy took on NAPS in a rematch from a game earlier in the season where NAPS came out on top. The script was flipped Friday, with the Wolverines coming out on top with a convincing 81-72 victory.
On Saturday, BA squared off against St. Thomas More in the finals, with the Wolverines taking a six-point lead into halftime. However, St. Thomas More heated up in the second half, using a strong inside game to change the tide and pull away for a nine-point victory.

BA at Pride's Corner Tournament

BA’s Basketball team traveled down to St. Thomas More in Oakdale, CT for STM Annual Tournament. The Wolverines would face St. Thomas More in the first game of the tournament. BA came out with good energy and battled for the whole game. Even though second half saw the chance for Bridgton to get the game to a two-possession game, they were never able to capitalize on their opportunities. The final score was 76-60 in favor of STM. Luckily, the Wolverines did not have to wait to long or dwell on the game from the night before, as they would take on Coastal Prep the next day in the consolation game. BA came out hot as they hit their first eight three-pointers and were playing great team basketball. Tanner Hyland (South Portland, ME) had 26 points with six three-pointers; Rayon Miller (Brampton, ON) had 10 points with some very clutch free-throws at the end of the game. With the team playing great and looking like a well-oiled machine, Coastal Prep had their hands full, and would fall to BA with a final score of 81-78. BA has three games coming up this week, with the first game is away on Wednesday against Brewster Academy. This weekend, BA hosts the Winter Classic at home. A $5.00 / day fee admission is charged for this weekend’s games, with all proceeds benefiting coaches Against Cancer.

BA vs. South Kent

Bridgton Academy’s basketball team was back in action this past weekend taking on South Kent School. To start the game the Wolverines came out flat and rushing their offense. They would battle back in the second half and cut South Kent’s lead down to 7 points. Unfortunately, that was as close as BA would get and ended up losing 68-47. BA travels down to St. Thomas More on Friday looking to get back on track.
